Our Ministries

Opportunities for Spiritual Growth and Christian Service

Most of our in-person activities are on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, but keep an eye on our upcoming events for our virtual and drive-up events!

This page includes a selection of our usual ministries. We can't wait to see everyone in person again!

Music Ministry

Making a Joyful Noise

At the moment, we mainly make our joyful noise together each week with a virtual hymn sing hosted on Zoom by our music director, Mike Nault. Our in-person music ministries have included:

  • Shepherd choir: a choral group for high school age and older

  • Handbell choir: junior high school age and older

  • Instrumentalists: guitar, flute, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, piano, organ, etc.

  • Children sing as part of Children’s Church each Sunday during Worship

Christian Education

Learning Together

Presently, a virtual Bible Study is held on Zoom each Monday at 7:00 PM.

Our in-person Christian Education activities in the past have included:

  • The adult Sunday school class at 9:00 AM before Sunday Worship

  • Two Bible Study classes each week on Tuesday: one at 10:00 AM and one at 6:30 PM

Outreach

Helping Our Community

As a congregation we support Souper Bowl of Caring, our local soup kitchen, Salvation Army, Protestant Preschool & Kindergarten (which is housed in our facility), Laundry Love of Goldsboro, Lutheran World Relief, and many other organizations that do good in the Goldsboro area and the world.

Lutheran Men in Mission and Women of the ELCA

Making a Difference

The LMM and WELCA groups at Good Shepherd work throughout the year to host fundraising events and supply drives. Just a few of their projects include:

  • The annual steak dinner hosted by Lutheran Men in Mission

  • Hosting meals during Advent and Lent before midweek worship services

  • Women of the ELCA gathering to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief
