This past Saturday GSLC hosted a fund raiser for Steve Douglas, who had a double lung transplant on November 23, 2018. Steve and Lisa have been on a roller coaster ride for the last 73 days in the ICU at Duke Medical Center.
Have you ever seen the Holy Spirit at work? I have and so have you!
The Holy Spirit worked through all of us to weave our gifts, enthusiasm, and compassion to give our time and money to help Steve and Lisa. From the printing of tickets to making baked goods, from running take out meals to keeping a tally, every volunteer hour to each person who enjoyed a tasty meal, setting up of tables to the vases of flowers—all were melded together by the Holy Spirit. Your energy, members of GSLC, released into the community pulled people at the YMCA, Aycock High School, Franklin Bakery, and the News Argus into a web of support.
Living as a community of faith is about showing up, helping out, offering your presence in times of trouble, acknowledging a person’s predicament with attentive listening, and opening opportunities to show the love of God. It is putting faith into action.
I Corinthians 12:12-27 says that when “one suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it.”
Several times over the last few weeks as this fund raiser came together, I have felt overwhelmed and humbled by the responses of others. I think people are looking for positive ways to help.
We are still receiving money for Steve and Lisa. At this writing we have raised over $5000.00 through the generosity of all. The Holy Spirit blows where it will, thank you for allowing it to gather us together.
