I saw a picture on social media that I thought fit the season. It described four kinds of headaches; 1) The migraine which is like a mask around the eyes, 2) The tension headache where the pain is located on the back of the head like a cap, 3) The stress headache that is like a tight headband around the brow, 4) the last and worst one of all which causes pain all over the head is bad Christmas music.
I'm tired of rocking down the aisles of the grocery store, weary of traveling over the mountain, and Santa Baby. Maybe my middle name is Grinch, I did wear a kooky Grinch hat for for Christmas caroling a couple of weeks ago. This playlist was fun at first, but now the music just makes me frantic. I realize how the season has been co-opted.
As we edge closer and closer to the joyous proclamation of Christ's birth-I offer this familiar hymn recast with thoughtfulness and rich with Advent blessings. When I first heard it I found myself in a peaceful and reflective place. Maybe it will draw you closer to the light of the Christ child.
