I am so thankful to have had some down time last week. I needed to unplug and step away from the routine of ministry. I am grateful to everyone who helped cover ministry needs during this time. I discovered that I had become numb to one of the most basic questions; what signs of God’s grace have you seen today?
During a visit from a colleague who services a congregation Pennsylvania we identified numerous God moments in ministry. On a quick trip to the store we, like many of you, saw the enormous and vivid rainbow that appeared in the sky after an intense rain storm. What a vision; all beauty and hope spanning the gray clouds. I also rediscovered how I love to pause on the back porch to watch the birds feed and humming birds float while sipping sugar. Such clever creatures with distinct calls and habits. A peace settles while I watch the community of birds sheltered in my yard.
Labor Day is fast approaching. It marks the end of summer and the beginning of school, accelerated activity in work and home life. As natural disasters, shootings, and hate filled talk fill the airways there is value in the question: what signs of God’s grace have you seen today? How is this happening in your life? What fills your heart and soul?
These “God moments” sustain us with hope, confirm our faith, and keep us moving forward with God.
